The Oriental Frill

I find Oriental Frills the jewels of the pigeon world just as many fanciers have before me. They are believed to have originated in Turkey or Iran, and were introduced to Europe in about 1864. They come in numerous colors and two main markings, Blondinette and Satinette. The English breeders named these various classes about 85 years ago, and they remain in use today in many countries. Over the past years the beaks have been shortened substantially. There are still a few of the old style around with longer beaks, which I personally prefer.

This is an example of what is called a Blondinette. A Satinette is a shield marked bird with a colored tail. Jeffery Hatton, a junior, breed this beautiful pigeon and it won the prize for the best junior breed bird in the whole show.

The Show:

All shows that I know of make special competition categories for juniors. This generally means any young person under the age of 18, who does indeed breed on their own. Some help is OK, but not as much help as in school science projects, please. As you can see from the beautiful bird above, the juniors really don't need it.
